May We Both

River drags with much aggression.
Water flows and I lie beneath:
This I deserve, my sole confession.
Stillness fills my bones and teeth.

My eyes have seen my equal’s face;
His works have done what my heart hides.
Murderous, we find strengthened pace.
Vileness in us true resides.

Lord! Have you seen this dreadful thought?
Too soon take blood than give my own.
Us two for whom you died and fought,
In current wide, us both be thrown.

A better hero than myself -
Raise us up for good conscience’ sake!
