Reaching, Waiting, Longing

It’s not that far to get away,
If I can get there on my feet.

Here by the fire,
Maybe I’ll find some rest.

It’s incredible to be alone
And have someone else join the room.

Jesus, I love you,
Though my body wages war against me.
Jesus, I cling to you.
Jesus, please heal me -
I’m desperate.
Be my engagement in this life,
The training of my eyes.

Makes Me Wonder

             Silence keeps me here and sitting,
             Waiting on some kind of word.
             Will you say 'hello' again?
             Or could this be the very end?

             Can we walk the streets of Moose Jaw?
             Or tour the city in your car?
             I like to hear you share your thoughts.
             I'll let you learn to ask for mine.

             I've got this treasure that I'm told to keep.
             She's not for me but someone right.
             She tries to leap right out her cage.
             How long can I keep her down?

             I think I need a pair of blinders,
             Keep 'em on, days and nights.
             I've got one LORD, one hope, one prize.
             Let me fix me eyes & train my sights.

             Listen to me, dear little girl:
             Christ is enough to fill you, please you.
             To Christ, give yourself all.

Dear Friend

Don’t need to ask me out,
Don’t need to buy me flowers,
Don’t need to shower pretty words,
Don’t need to hold my hand.

Don’t need a promise of commitment,
Don’t want to lend my heart.
...I know I won’t be staying long.

But be my friend.
Yes, let’s be friends!
I like the character I see in you.
If we can guard each others’ hearts,
I want to know you more.

So many uncertain factors...
Uncertain risks...
Is this wise?
Tell me, is friendship possible?
